High Rate Of Satisfaction With Gender-Transition Treatment In Adolescents Who Socially Transitioned Very Young, Study Finds
A major ongoing survey study of kids who expressed a transgender identity and ultimately socially transitioned in early childhood found that few who started gender-transition treatment regretted it.
A major long-term survey study of minors who identified as transgender and socially transitioned at a very young age found that among 220 of the adolescents who had started gender-transition treatment, there was a high rate of satisfaction and there were low rates of regret and discontinuation with treatment. An average of several years into their medicalized gender transition, 97 percent of them continued to access what is known as gender-affirming care.
This study sheds important light on the trajectory of children who undergo such treatments. However, the study population, which was recruited up to a decade ago, is not necessarily reflective of the overall contemporary population of minors with gender dysphoria. And so, importantly, this study cannot necessarily inform how most gender dysphoric children will fare if they receive puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat the condition.
